Bloated? Constipated? Does Everything You Eat Upset Your Gut?

Let's find a better place to start.

Your pants fit in the morning but feel two sizes too small after supper. You're eating fibre but still struggling to go to the bathroom. Or maybe your list of safe foods keeps getting smaller.

I hear these frustrations all the time in my clinic.

Different gut problems call for different approaches.

Find the problem that sounds like yours, see which products I commonly consider, and shop directly if they're right for you.

Bloated After Eating?

"My pants fit this morning. What the hell happened by supper?"

You wake up feeling pretty good.

Then you eat, your belly expands, and suddenly you're uncomfortable in your own clothes.

Gas. Pressure. That awful feeling of food sitting like a brick.

Sound familiar?

When someone comes into my clinic describing this exact problem, one of the first things I look at is how they're digesting their meals.

And depending on what's going on, there's one product I often consider to help support that process.

Here's where I'd start.

Mark's Pick: Digestzymes

When someone tells me their belly gets uncomfortable after eating, Digestzymes is one of the first products I consider.

It provides digestive enzymes that help break down components of food.

If your discomfort tends to happen around meals, this may be worth exploring.

What If Digestive Enzymes Aren't Enough?

Sometimes bloating isn't just about how you're digesting your food.

In my clinic, I also look at whether other factors, including changes in gut bacteria, might be contributing to the problem.

Berberine is another product I consider in selected cases, but it's not something I'd recommend everyone with bloating should take.

Before you spend money on another supplement, let's make sure it's appropriate for you.

Constipated? Let's Get Things Moving.

"I'm eating fibre, drinking water, and STILL waiting days to go."

You feel heavy. Your belly is uncomfortable. And sometimes it seems like the more fibre you eat, the worse things get.

You're doing what everyone tells you to do, but your bowels just aren't cooperating.

Sound familiar?

When someone comes into my clinic struggling with constipation, I want to know what's slowing things down before simply telling them to eat more fibre.

Sometimes, a little extra support can help get things moving.

Here's one option I commonly consider.

Mark’s Pick: Magnesium Citrate

If you're dealing with occasional constipation, magnesium citrate is one of the options I consider.

Depending on the formulation and dose, it helps draw water into the intestines, which can make stools easier to pass.

For the right person, it may be a useful way to get things moving while addressing what's causing the constipation.

Also Feeling Uncomfortable After Meals?

If you're dealing with constipation and that heavy, overly full feeling after eating, I sometimes consider digestive enzymes as a separate part of the picture.

Digestzymes is one of the products I use when meal-related digestive symptoms make it worth considering.

Constipation That Just Won't Improve?

If you're constantly relying on laxatives or your bowel habits have changed, I'd rather help you investigate what's going on than have you keep guessing.

Does Everything You Eat Seem to Upset Your Gut?

"My list of safe foods keeps getting smaller."

First it was dairy. Then gluten. Now you're questioning foods you've eaten your entire life.

Your belly feels sensitive, unpredictable, and you're tired of wondering what you can safely eat.

Sound familiar?

When someone comes into my clinic with a sensitive gut, one of the things I consider is whether the right probiotic could play a role in supporting their digestion.

But here's the important part:

Not all probiotics do the same thing.

That's why I look at the strains, the symptoms, and what we're trying to accomplish.

Three Probiotics. Three Different Reasons I'd Consider Them.

Which situation sounds most like yours?

UltraFlora Balance

"I just want a good daily probiotic. Where do I start?"

Looking for straightforward daily digestive support?

UltraFlora Balance contains two well-studied strains, NCFM and Bi-07.

Mark's take: A simple daily probiotic option when general digestive support is the goal.

UltraFlora Intensive Care

"I'm constantly dealing with gas, bloating, and an uncomfortable belly."

When recurring abdominal discomfort is the problem, I may consider a more targeted probiotic.

Intensive Care contains Lactobacillus plantarum 299v, a strain studied for certain IBS-type symptoms.

Mark's take: One of my targeted options for recurring gas, bloating, and abdominal discomfort.

UltraFlora Acute Care

"I'm taking antibiotics. What can I do to support my gut?"

Antibiotics can disrupt your digestive system.

UltraFlora Acute Care is formulated to help reduce the risk of antibiotic-associated diarrhea.

Mark's take: A specific option I consider when someone needs digestive support while taking antibiotics.

Check suitability before use, particularly if you're immunocompromised or seriously ill.

Still Not Sure Which Probiotic to Choose?

Don't guess.

Tried Everything and Still Struggling?

"I've spent a small fortune on gut supplements, and I'm still uncomfortable."

You've tried probiotics, eliminated foods, and bought supplements that promised all kinds of things.

And your gut still isn't cooperating.

Sometimes the answer isn't another supplement. It's figuring out what you're missing.
