The four gut patterns
Which Sounds Most Like You?
Gut issues can show up in different ways. These are the four most common patterns I see in the clinic. You may relate to one, or a combination.
The Bloated Gut
Fine in the morning, but increasingly bloated after eating or later in the day. Visible abdominal distension, excess gas, tight or uncomfortable feeling.
The Sluggish Gut
Constipation, incomplete bowel movements, a feeling of heaviness and fullness. Infrequent bowel movements, hard or dry stools, abdominal discomfort.
The Reactive Gut
Foods that never bothered you suddenly seem to cause symptoms. Bloating, gas, changes in bowel habits, digestive discomfort, increased sensitivities.
The Upper-GI Gut
Reflux, burping, heartburn, fullness or the feeling that food is sitting in your stomach. Nausea, a feeling of food sitting in your stomach after meals.
Your guide
Hi, I'm Mark.
I'm Mark Kibyuk, a Naturopath with MK Natural Health Services. Gut health is one of the main areas I work with in my clinic. I regularly see people who have been dealing with bloating, constipation, reflux, food sensitivities and digestive discomfort — sometimes for years.
My approach is to look beyond the symptom and ask why it's happening. That means looking at digestion, bowel function, the microbiome, gut lining, diet, stress, lifestyle and, when appropriate, functional testing.
I created the Gut Health Check-Up to help you better understand what your symptoms may be telling you and what your next step could look like.
